Scooped at Square One
The client’s brief asked us to create a space that expresses the brand experience without displaying their product. To maintain the quality of their ice cream, Scooped stores small batches in enclosed freezers without light. Our response: a space that feels like a warm invitation.
Inside, the store glows with warmth—light reflects off fluted glass and soft, earth-toned porcelain tiles.A muted red-orange floor, laid in a staggered pattern, guides the eye toward the service counter
From the moment customers approach, they’re drawn in by the aroma of freshly made waffle cones drifting beyond the store into Oxford’s Square One mall. The cone-making process is central to the experience. A custom waffle iron presses delicate proprietary patterns, visible from the counter. Behind it, partial-height fluted glass walls refract light and conceal the back-of-house, wrapping around the POS to create a more intimate space. A smooth coral microcement wash gives the room a pink hue
The point of sale is framed by a curved mirrored wall. At its apex, an opening reveals a pint merchandise freezer, built into the wall like a hidden door—offering a glimpse into an industrial freezer. A custom pastry case displays delicate cones, lit to showcase their craft. Brushed stainless steel, bourbon oak accents, and key wooden touchpoints at the POS and condiment station invite tactile engagement.
