Flag is a retail space located in Toronto’s underground PATH system. This network of passages connects major commercial buildings and adds a second interior layer of retail streets to the downtown core. Without much natural light and surrounded by retail competitors, Flag uses colour to both brighten and draw attention to the shop.

The ceiling is blanketed by a flag of colours. The swatch represents all of the colours found within Greenhouse Juice’s recipes. Its application on the space’s ceiling draws attention to the shop’s location undergound.

Construction was completed during Pride month. We decided to embark on a design exercise to tie together the project and the celebration of Pride. We used a similar technique to that used for the ceiling fins at Flag. The colours are derived from the many flags of the LGBTQ2S+ community. They are then composed into two swatches resembling the diversity of the many colours of Pride.
